The collection on the history of the national associations of St. Petersburg, which includes information about the Abkhaz-Abaza people, was published by the St. Petersburg House of Nationalities.
The St. Petersburg House of Nationalities prepared and published the collection "National-cultural associations, fraternities and Cossack societies of St. Petersburg." The publication is timed to the 15th anniversary of the House of Nationalities. The collection also includes information about the Abkhaz-Abaza people.
Aleksey Achkasov, chief specialist of the department of interethnic relations of the St. Petersburg House of Nationalities, said that the idea of creating a collection came a long time ago, however, for various reasons, it was not possible to implement it for a long time.
"The work was carried out for about a year. All this time, the collection of information was painstakingly going on; the material was verified and agreed with specialists. The collection was prepared based on information from the leaders of the national-cultural associations of St. Petersburg. We collected information upon request, and from this, we have already formed the material," Alexey Achkasov shared the details about the work on the publication.
According to him, the collection reflects the history of the emergence of compatriots in St. Petersburg, there is also information about how they live now. The book contains photographs and archival materials.
"The collection contains information about more than 60 peoples of Russia, foreign countries and representatives of regions, whose traditional culture is represented by national-cultural associations and communities in our city," he said.
The Chairman of the Council of the WAC regional branch in St. Petersburg Temur Rekvava said that the WAC team took an active part in the creation of the collection: throughout the past year, despite the difficult epidemiological situation, helped the creators of the collection to collect information about the Abkhazians and Abaza.
"We are very glad that such a wonderful collection is produced, which is very, very important for the culture of the multinational city of St. Petersburg," said Rekvava.
He noted that the local branch of the WAC in St. Petersburg and the House of Nationalities have cooperated not for the first time, adding that there are other joint projects planned as well.
"We have a lot of plans and projects aimed at creating interests in our culture, preserving the ethnocultural diversity of St. Petersburg, strengthening and establishing interaction between national and cultural associations. The festival of culture of the peoples of the Caucasus, the gala concert "We are Together", the ball of nationalities have become traditional. We plan to take part in all these events, we are already preparing," said the Head of the Council of the regional department.
The collection "National-cultural associations, fraternities and Cossack societies of St. Petersburg" was released for the first time. Its circulation is 300 copies. The St. Petersburg House of Nationalities donated copies of the collection to the national associations of St. Petersburg; the other part of the copies will be kept in the library of the House of Nationalities.
The St. Petersburg House of Nationalities is a state institution opened in 2005 by the decision of the St. Petersburg government. The House of Nationalities sees its task in being "a bridge connecting executive authorities and national-cultural associations".
