The head of Abkhazia signed a decree on the situation with COVID-19, abolishing most of the restrictions that have been in force so far, but retaining restrictions on entry into the Republic.

The President of Abkhazia, Aslan Bzhania, signed a new decree on separate measures to protect the health of the population of the Republic of Abkhazia from COVID-19 of June 12, 2020.

Starting June 15, almost all restrictions within the country will be lifted, including the holding of public events.  Only the work of preschool educational institutions will be banned.

Until July 1, entry into the Republic of Abkhazia through checkpoints on the Abkhaz-Russian state border of foreign citizens and stateless persons will be limited.  According to the decree, workers of diplomatic institutions of foreign states accredited in the Republic of Abkhazia, military personnel of the Border Directorate of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Republic of Abkhazia, the United Russian Military Base, drivers of vehicles engaged in international freight transport, and freight train drivers are allowed to enter Abkhazia.

Also, before July 1, 2020 duty-free shops at the border will be closed.  Until this date, room reservation, the reception and accommodation of citizens in hotels, resorts, boarding houses, guest houses and other accommodation facilities is prohibited on the territory of the Republic of Abkhazia.

The relevant departments were instructed to provide isolation for a period of 14 calendar days for citizens of Abkhazia who arrived from countries where cases of COVID-19 were recorded.

To date, 37 cases of coronavirus infection have been identified in Abkhazia, 27 of them have recovered and one has died.  There are 9 patients in the Gudauta hospital.  481 people underwent a two-week observation at the Aitar Hotel in Sukhum.  Today 16 people remain there.
