The Operational Headquarters for the protection of the population from coronavirus infection reported that in Abkhazia 14 more people fell ill with COVID-19.

According to operational data, as of August 1, 14 new cases of coronavirus infection were detected in Abkhazia. This was announced by the Headquarters for the protection of the population from coronavirus infection.

 According to the Headquarters, over the past 24 hours, testing for coronavirus infection was carried out among 222 citizens. The survey of all contact persons continues.

“At the moment, there are 26 patients with confirmed coronavirus infection in the Gudauta Central District Hospital,” the Operational Headquarters said.

Following the meeting of the Coordination Headquarters for the protection of the population of Abkhazia from COVID-19 on August 1, all members of the headquarters unanimously spoke in favor of the abolition of all restrictive measures in Abkhazia, adopted earlier in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection in the Republic. This was reported by the Press Service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Abkhazia.

The agenda of the meeting included issues of the current epidemiological situation, the operating mode of the Russian-Abkhaz border, and the opening of the tourist season.

At the meeting of the Coordination Headquarters, Prime Minister Alexander Ankvab said that from August 1, Russians will be able to freely enter Abkhazia, and citizens of Abkhazia - to Russia.

“The conclusions of the Rospotrebnadzor and the Ministry of Health of Russia on the sanitary and epidemiological situation in Abkhazia and the readiness of our tourist infrastructure to receive tourists were taken into account. The Abkhazian side opens the border in a mirrored way, without any restrictions. This issue was discussed for a long time, and we came to a common opinion,” the Prime Minister said.

He also noted that people entering the republic do not need certificates of the absence of coronavirus.

According to the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Abkhazia, the Coordination Headquarters will submit a draft of the relevant Order for consideration by the President of the Republic of Abkhazia.

Earlier on July 31, the Operational Headquarters of the Russian Federation announced that the state Abkhaz-Russian border would be open from August 1.

The total number of detected cases of coronavirus in Abkhazia today is 98 people. Of these, 37 recovered, 3 died.
