On July 26, the anniversary 10th Games of the Abaza People began in the village of Staro-Kuvinsk, Adyg-Khablsky Region, Karachay-Cherkessia. Major competitions brought together 12 teams from the Abaza villages of Karachay-Cherkessia and Abkhazia. A team from Moscow also competed in several sports. Thousands of people arrived to support the participants and enjoy the festive atmosphere.

The power of tradition and sport: 10th Abaza People's Games were held in Karachay-Cherkessia

The main prize of the games is a challenge cup, cast from bronze and covered with national symbols. According to the already established tradition, the winners of last year's tournament handed over the cup to the host party - the village of Staro-Kuvinsk.

The tournament program included spectacular team and individual competitions: football, volleyball, 100-meter run, long jump, triathlon, shooting - a total of 11 sports. In addition to the competitions, exciting activities were organized for everyone: darts, petanque, face painting, board games and many other things.

It is worth noting that thanks to the efforts of the residents of the villages of Staro-Kuvinsk and Novo-Kuvinsk, two football pitches were prepared this year. In addition, for the first time, a special children's area with a foam party was created, which became a bright and memorable entertainment for the little guests. The organizers also made sure that the spectators would not be too tired to stand in the heat - everyone could take shelter in the recreation area under the tents.

"A special thanks goes to the residents of Staro-Kuvinsk and Novo-Kuvinsk - for their sincere unity, warm welcome and the enormous work done to prepare the games. Thanks to them, everything was organized at a high level: from landscaping to financial support.

The President of the World Abaza Congress, Mussa Khabalevich Ekzekov, always says that the main goal of such events is not only the development of physical culture, but also the unification of people, the creation of conditions for their communication, mutual understanding and cohesion. Looking at the number of participants and guests, at the atmosphere that reigned at the anniversary competitions, we see that this goal is being realized. Therefore, we are on the right track and will confidently continue to move forward," noted the President of the "Abaza People’s Sports Academy" Murat Tlisov.

After summing up the results of individual sports, viewers and participants of the games moved to the main stage - in the middle of the day, a solemn opening ceremony took place there. 12 riders with flags raced past the spectators, embodying the spirit of unity and pride. They were followed by participating teams, ready to light up the arena with their achievements. The Chairman of the Supreme Council of the WAC, President of the "Alashara" International Association Mussa Ekzekov addressed the audience with a welcoming speech.

"I am sincerely glad to welcome everyone to this wonderful holiday, where all our brothers and sisters can feel the atmosphere of unity. It is gratifying to see that, despite the tough fight in each announced competition, the spirit of brotherhood, not rivalry, reigns here. I cordially thank everyone involved in organizing the long-awaited sporting event. In these games, where we become closer to each other, there are no losers, everyone is a winner here," Musa Ekzekov noted.

The opening ceremony was attended by honorary guests - members of the Government and members of the People's Assembly of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, heads of administrations of Abaza rural villages. The delegation from the Republic of Abkhazia was headed by Bastakua Agrba, Deputy Chairman of the State Repatriation Committee.

After the ceremony, team sports competitions continued, which were greeted by loud applause and emotional cries of fans.

The captain of the team from Abkhazia, the head of the Department of Youth Development and Physical Culture of the WAC Valery Berzeniia commented on the participation of the Abkhazian delegation in the games.

"Every year the number of people wishing to go to the sporting event is increasing. There are more than 40 people in our team this year. Despite the sweltering heat, the guys show decent results. The adrenaline of the competition is felt on all the courts. It's really cool!" he said.

The Abkhazian team became the best in volleyball. For the fifth time, young athletes from Abkhazia left their opponents no chance of winning.

"There are seven people in our friendly team. Our team always actively prepares for the games in the Karachay-Cherkess Republic. Every year we all come to these competitions together. And we come here only for victory!" noted Yana Shamba, a member of the volleyball team.

Other representatives of the Abkhazian delegation also took prizes in the competitions. Amal Kvekveskiri took third place in the 100-meter dash, and Ramir Makhariia won bronze in arm wrestling.

The head of the Sukhum branch of the WAC, Temur Rekvava, noted the high level of the event and thanked the organizers of the sports festival and its participants.

"I would like to express my profound gratitude to all the participants, organizers and fans for a bright and truly unifying sports festival. The Abaza People’s Games were held for the 10th time, and once again proved that sport is not only competition, but also team spirit, mutual support, and a successful way to unite."

Closer to the evening, perhaps the most spectacular and long-awaited event of the games began – tug-of-war. Thousands of spectators and participants of the games gathered on the main site to cheer for their teams.

The team from the village of Inzhich-Chukun was declared the winner in the overall team standings. In individual types of competitions, athletes from the village of Kubina won five victories, Inzhich-Chukun won four, Kara-Pago, Psyzh and Krasny Vostok won two, and Staro-Kuvinsk and Abkhazia gained one victory each.

The baton of the sports festival was passed to Kazma. A bright spot in the end of the cultural and sports festival was a concert with the participation of national dance ensembles and representatives of the musical scene of Abazashta.
