The opening ceremony began with a vibrant dance show, setting the pace for the entire championship. All teams took to the field to the sounds of the Abkhazian anthem.
The organizers addressed the participants and spectators with welcoming speeches.
"Today is a truly momentous event. National games have been a tradition for Abkhazians since ancient times, so their revival is of great importance. I thank everyone involved in organizing the event—the head of state, the State Committee for Youth and Sports, the Federation of National Sports under the leadership of Adgur Gunba, and the World Abaza Congress," noted Akhra Ashuba, Advisor to the President of Abkhazia on Sports.
Temur Rekvava, head of the Sukhum office of the World Abaza Congress, told about the progress of the project to revive the national games.
"For three years, we've held master classes and competitions in various regions of Abkhazia, produced a documentary about "Аимҵакьачара" and studied the material used to create a set of rules. It's gratifying that a federation has been established and is actively operating in the republic, organizing such competitions. On behalf of Mussa Khabalevich Ekzekov, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the WAC, I congratulate all of us on this significant event!" said Rekvava.
The importance of teamwork was emphasized by one of the championship judges, Valery Berzeniia, head of the WAC department for youth development and physical education.
"Step by step, the Congress team, together with Adgur Gunba and Alisa Pachaliia, who initially proposed this project, worked to revive national sports. The culmination of our joint efforts was the Federation, and today we are helping it. Therefore, we succeeded, and that's great!" Berzeniia said.
The competition was held in an atmosphere of excitement and friendly competition. Teams from Sukhum Schools No. 1 and No. 5, "Chlou", "Kutol", and "Apsar" from Novy Afon participated. The boys, sparing no effort, demonstrated extraordinary speed and agility.
Several hours of intense play later, the "Chlou" and "Apsar" teams achieved the best results. The teams from Sukhum Schools No. 1 and No. 5 won the junior championship.
The next competition will be held on November 2 in the village of Chlou.
"Аимҵакьачара" is a traditional Abkhazian game that combines rugby, baseball, and freestyle wrestling. The goal of the teams is to run with the ball to the opponent's side of the pitch and earn as many points as possible.
