Abkhazian State University celebrated the anniversary of renowned Caucasus scholar and Doctor of Philology Sergey Pazov. He pioneered the study of Abaza phraseology, authored the first university textbooks, and developed state educational standards for this subject.
A solemn event in honor of the ASU Honorary Professor's anniversary was held at the Abkhaz Language Department. His colleagues, leading scholars in Abkhazia, gathered to congratulate the birthday person.
Batal Khagush, Dean of the ASU Faculty of Philology and Journalism, addressed the meeting participants with a welcoming speech. He warmly welcomed the guests and noted the scholar's invaluable contribution to Caucasian studies:
"We have all gathered at the Center for Abkhaz-Adyg Languages at the ASU Faculty of Philology. This room was opened to bring together representatives of our language group. Today, we congratulate our dear colleague Sergey Umarovich on his anniversary, for whom we have the utmost respect," he noted.
Khagush handed the floor over to ASU Vice-Rector for Research, Doctor of Philology, Julietta Adleyba, who congratulated the jubilee and delivered a message on behalf of Rector Aleko Gvaramia. The message stated, in particular:
"Your professional career, much of which is associated with the Aliyev Karachay-Cherkess University, exemplifies dedicated service to science and education. Your status as a candidate of philological sciences, a full member of the International Academy of Informatization, an honorary member of the Academy of Sciences of Abkhazia, and an honorary professor of higher professional education of the Russian Federation is a well-deserved recognition of your many years of work in the study of the Abaza language and your significant contribution to the development of Caucasian linguistics."
Many warm words were addressed to the jubilee from colleagues: Doctor of Philology, Professor Lili Khagba, and Head of the V.P. Ankvab Abkhaz-Adyg Philology Center Akhra Ankvab, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Aleksey Kaslandzia, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Ivan Tarba, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Honorary Professor Diana Adzhindzhal, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Director of ABIGI, Member of the Supreme Council of the WAC Arda Ashuba.
The speakers expressed their great appreciation for the scholar, whose many years of work are aimed at studying and developing Caucasian philology. The festive program was complemented by creative performances.
Students of the Philological Faculty of ASU performed for the guests, reciting poems and songs in the Abkhaz and Abaza languages.
Sergey Pazov addressed all those present with words of sincere gratitude for their congratulations and attention.
"From the bottom of my heart, I thank the leadership of the Abkhazian State University, personally the highly respected Aleko Alekseevich, and the entire faculty. It is symbolic that we're celebrating this anniversary in a building designed to unite our fraternal peoples and linguistic cultures. Best wishes to our beloved ASU, and to all of you, good health and new scientific achievements!" Pazov remarked.
The meeting concluded with a friendly communication and a discussion of prospects for the development of Caucasian studies.
