From year to year, for 10 years now, the national holiday is becoming bigger, brighter and more colorful. Everything is in the finest traditions: dances, songs, treats, a fair of folk craftsmen, meetings of representatives of the Abkhaz-Abaza ethnic group, a procession in national costumes under proudly waving flags - this is how the Day of Culture of the Abaza people is held in the city of Cherkessk.
The festival is held on the initiative of the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the World Abaza-Abaza Congress Mussa Ekzekov. This year it is an anniversary one - the holiday of unity is exactly 10 years old. It also includes the Day of Games of the Abaza people, which this time will be held in the village of Staro-Kuvinsk on July 26. The organizers of the event are the International Association "Alashara" and the Academy of Sports of the Abaza people.
"This festival is more than a competition. This is a holiday of unity, where we pass on the wisdom of our ancestors to the new generation. We are always looking for ways to preserve intangible cultural heritage, and I am confident that we are on the right track,” says the welcoming address of the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the WAC Mussa Ekzekov.
The vibrant day began with the presentation of the documentary film “Dance Like Dzyba!” dedicated to the great ballet master and dancer Georgy Dzyba. The presentation of the picture took place in the State Philharmonic of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic. The welcoming speech on behalf of the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the WAC Mussa Ekzekov was made by the project manager of the film Natella Dzhemakulova. According to her, the idea to make a film about Georgy Dzyba came many years ago, but it only became possible to implement it this year.
“Several years ago, I read an article on the WAC website that mentioned Georgy Dzyba. Since then, I have been haunted by the idea of making a film about this outstanding person. Filming took place in Abkhazia, Dagestan and Makhachkala. In total, during the preparation of the documentary, the film crew shot 22 interviews with representatives of the creative intelligentsia, who personally knew the dancer. Colleagues, friends and relatives of Dzyba spoke at the presentation. The film was made with the financial support of the Ekzekov Foundation. It is gratifying that such a prominent figure as Georgy Dzyba brought us all together again,” said Dzhemakulova.
The picture film will be presented in Abkhazia soon, and will be available for everyone on the official websites of the WAC and "Alashara".
The second part of the festival continued in the Green Island Park.
Thematic pavilions were organized here, presenting the values and culture of the Abaza people, exhibitions of decorative and applied arts, as well as national cuisine.
Many guests joined the celebration, including both residents and guests of the republic. The concert featured artists of the Abkhazian and Abaza stage. The celebration ended with fireworks, good mood and promises to meet here again next year.
